Week 9 Desktop publishing

Create a logo to be used in your multipage document for the unit.

Come up with some test examples or thumb nails for a logo that describes what you do. It could be you as a photographer, graphic designer, or just something describes you and what you do.

The logo needs to look professional and be just as good in black and white as in colour.

1. A logo is the very first impression people get of your company.
2. A logo needs longevity.
3. A logo needs to be original.
4. A logo should look professional.
5. A logo should reflect the time and thought gone in to designing it.
6. A logo is the starting point of your whole corporate image.

The design process of a professional logo designer usually consists of:

1. The Design Brief: They conduct a questionnaire or interview with the client to get the design brief.
2. Research: They conduct research focused on the industry itself, on its history, and on its competitors.
3. Reference: They conduct research into logo designs that have been successful and current styles and trends that are related to the design brief.
4. Sketching & Conceptualising: They develop the logo design concept(s) around the brief and research. They use creativity and know how to design a logo.
5. Reflection: They take breaks throughout their design process. This lets their ideas mature and lets them get renewed enthusiasm and receive feedback.
6. Presentation: They then choose whether to present only a select few logos to the client or a whole collection.
7. Celebration: They then drink beer or eat chocolate or sleep or start on next logo design. Or a combination.

Week 8 Desktop Publishing

Open the banner creation document from your student folder on the public drive and follow the series of steps to create a basic banner using photoshop.

Week 8

1. Follow the demonstration by your teacher on the selection tools in Photoshop.

2. Follow the link below for a repeat on how to use the pen tool for selection in Photoshop.

3. On the public drive in the class folder is a document with a list of shortcuts used with the pen tool. Open it for reference.

4. In the same class folder is an image titled circle.jpg. Open it into Photoshop.

5. Create a new canvas in Photoshop 21 cm x 29.7cm 300 (pixels/inch) and use the fill tool to create a black background.

6. Using the pen tool select the circle from the cirle image, convert the path formed by the pen tool into a selection and then copy and paste it across to your new canvas with the black background.

7. Check to see you have made a correct selection. If there is white showing try again.

8. Repeat for all the other images in the folder then try your own images.

9. Have a go at using the other selection tools to select the practice images but only paste across your pen tool selection. You must get proficient with the pen tool.

1. Show your night time Shots to your teacher.
    Choose the best three 
    Save them as jpgs.
    Upload them to your blog.
    Comment upon them.

2. Conduct an experiment using the zoom blur effect.

    Upload your image to your blog.

3. Follow a demonstration on the merging layers exercise.

Save as a jpg and upload to your blog.

3. Conduct the exercise again following your own theme and a selection of images related to that theme.
